AT-HOME LEARNING/HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS:

· Math: See homework grid on back of newsletter

· Spelling: See home work grid on back of newsletter

· Bag Book Reading: We will meet at least three times per week.

· Read every night for at least 15 minutes; record your book titles in your agenda.

FOCUS FOR THIS WEEK:

Language Arts: We will be reading “Just like Josh Gibson”

Vocabulary from text: bases, cheers, field, plate, sailed, threw

Word Wall Words: winter, somewhere, somebody, someone, zebra

Math: We will be grouping tens and hundreds with and without leftovers as well as renaming numbers.

Writing: The Sundae Bowl – 6 Traits of writing

Science/Social Studies: We will begin discussing the 3 states of matter.

IMPORTANT DATES:

· January 14, 2011 – End of 2^nd Quarter

· January 17, 2011 – Martin Luther King Holiday

· January 18, 2011 – Teacher Work Day – NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS

· January 19-21, 2011 – Student-led Conferences – Time and date for second grade will be announced.

· January 21, 2011 – Report Card/Awards Assembly

NEWS, NOTES, and REMINDERS:

• Please be sure to SIGN your child’s homework grid and behavior tracker/calendar each night! This lets us know that you are aware of your child’s homework assignments and behavior in class.
• Make sure that any books your child reads are written down on their reading log and sign their reading log.
