· Bag Book Reading: We will meet at least four times per week. (we will begin sending

Reading books home on September 7th)

· Read every night for at least 15 minutes, record your book titles in your agenda.

FOCUS FOR THIS WEEK:

Language Arts: Read “Flat Stanley” and work on Flat Stanley project.

Vocabulary from text: Discovering Words as we read together.

Word Wall Words: about, before, read, jump, cold

Math: Develop a sense for whole numbers…place value, compare, order, and estimating numbers.

Writing: Flat Stanley Writing

Science/Social Studies: Building communities within the classroom

September 6, 2010: Labor Day Holiday (NO SCHOOL)

September 9, 2010: Full PTO meeting at Smithfield Public Library (upstairs meeting room) 6:30-7:30pm

NEWS, NOTES, and REMINDERS:

  • Please be sure to SIGN your child’s homework grid and behavior tracker/calendar each night! This lets us know that you are aware of your child’s homework assignments and behavior in class.
  • Make sure that any books your child reads are written down on their reading log and sign their reading log.
  • We will be mailing our Flat characters from school. (We need donations of envelopes large enough to house our Flat characters and postage stamps.)
  • Starting September 13th, we will begin sending home addition facts that your children will need to memorize. Each Friday they will have a timed quiz on the facts assigned. A letter will be arriving home shortly that will give you more details.

Welcome! First Day

Hello Ms. Johnson's Jumping Jellybeans and Parents,

We are off to a great start! I enjoyed meeting each and everyone of your children today and look forward to learning more about them throughout the year. Your child will not have any homework sheets this week. Their homework for this week is to get all of their papers signed and returned. Reading and Math homework sheets will begin next week. However, spelling homework will not start until August 30th.

Parents are asked to supply students with the following...

* 1 - wire Bound Sketch Pad with 100 or more pages. (No Composition books)

* 1 - Watercolor set

If you would like to donate any art supplies, please feel free to ask Mr. Adam what the needs are or you can purchase a gift card or gift certificate from any art supply store.
