AT-HOME LEARNING/HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS:

· Math: See homework grid on back of newsletter (Math facts will start in September)

· Spelling: See home work grid on back of newsletter (Spelling will not begin until August 30th)

· Bag Book Reading: We will meet at least four times per week. (This week will be a little different due to assessments)

· Read every night for at least 15 minutes, record your book titles in your agenda.

FOCUS FOR THIS WEEK:

Language Arts: Complete Reading assessments; Read “Flat Stanley” and begin Flat Stanley project.

Vocabulary from text: Discovering Words as we read together.

Word Wall Words: about, before, read, jump, cold

Math: Math pre-assessments; Identifying numbers in different forms, telling the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit and read and understand information in a calendar.

Writing: All About Me and Summer Vacations

Science/Social Studies: Building communities within the classroom

September 6, 2010: Labor Day Holiday (NO SCHOOL)

September 9, 2010: Full PTO meeting at Smithfield Public Library (upstairs meeting room) 6:30-7:30pm

September 14, 2010: Spirit Night – Smithfield – at Chick-Fil-A 5pm-7pm

September 20, 2010: Progress Reports

September 21, 2010: Board Meeting at 5:00 p.m.

September 30, 2010: Attraction book fundraiser ENDS

September 30, 2010: Cookie dough fundraiser BEGINS

NEWS, NOTES, and REMINDERS:

• Please be sure to SIGN your child’s homework grid and behavior tracker/calendar each night! This lets us know that you are aware of your child’s homework assignments and behavior in class.
• Make sure that any books your child reads are written down on their reading log and sign their reading log.
